birdy asked Is 15 volts good for a basic cordless drill?

Im going to buy one soon but didn't know what was good what was bad? I mean "basic" as in all purpose.

And got the following answer:

Define "basic". My first cordless was 9.6 volts and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I have owned a 12v Panasonic, an 18v DeWalt high torque hammer drill, and my latest pride and joy, the Makita impact drill at 7.2 volts, I think. I use 3 units on a regular basis, but the DeWalt 18v is a real workhorse. If you want to save a ton of money, get a $30 or so inexpensive one from Harbor Freight. Their 24 volt units are average all-purpose and you won't feel bad about upgrading down the road. After all, my DeWalt did cost about $280 as just a drill.
