jasper asked How do you get rid of bed bugs ?
we move , purchase new furniture. we just purchase a new bed had the bed 2 1/2 months and now its infested with bedbugs we wrapped up the beds in plastic still didn't help
And got the following answer:
Hi Jasper, Sorry to hear you move has gone so badly wrong. Firstly, you don't say whether you are renting or you own the property. If you are renting get on to your landlord immediately. OK, you have a couple of choices: You could hire professional pest control experts to deal with the problem. They will advise you on what preparation is required and take care of the rest. If you decide to take this route make sure your hire a company which deals with bed bugs (some don't.) Get references and check them out. Make sure you get guarantees - treatment does not always work first time. Remember, don't be ruled by the price - cheapest isn't always best. Your second option is to do it yourself. I have found through experience that there is no single thing which will get rid of bed bugs successfully. However, this combination has worked for me. 1. De-clutter the room. Seal everything you don't want or need in plastic bags and get rid of it. 2. Launder EVERYTHING possible - clothing bedding etc. Use as high a temperature as fabrics will allow then tumble dry everything again on the highest setting. Items which cannot be laundered may be put in the tumble dryer for 20 minutes. It is the drying part of this process which is important so don't be tempted to air dry. Place all the freshly laundered items in clean plastic bags and seal them to prevent re-contamination. 3. Use you vacuum cleaner and vacuum everything. Including your mattress, box spring, soft furnishings, upholstery, soft toys, the underside and inside drawers and furniture, along base boards and so on. Make use of the attachments for your vacuum cleaner to get into cracks and crevices. Empty the contents of your vacuum cleaner into a plastic bag, seal it and dispose of it immediately. Thoroughly clean your vacuum cleaner. 4. Either buy or hire a steam cleaner. Get one which can reach temperatures in excess of 120 oC and which produces "dry" vapor. This will prevent items getting too wet. Slowly and methodically work your way round the room making sure that the steam head is kept just above the surface being treated. If it is too high the temperature of the steam will be greatly reduced making it less effective. Steam has the huge advantage of killing bed bug eggs which many sprays cannot. 5. Once your mattress and box spring are thoroughly dry put bed bug proof en-casements on them. This will help prevent re-infestation. 6. As an added insurance policy you could use crawling insect dust or a residual bed bug spray. This process is time consuming and hard work but it does work. Although, I have to say you may have to repeat it more than once. I hope this helps
