BN asked Is there a way to diffuse light from LED recessed light bulbs?

I bought a number LED bulbs for can lights in my family room. After having them for a while, I feel like the light is too direct and harsh. I wish there was a way to diffuse the lights a little bit. Is there any such thing to attach to the light? The bulbs are Par38.

And got the following answer:

I'm a lighting designer & work with LED bulbs frequently. I don't think there's much you can do. The 1st generations of LED PAR lamps are very harsh in the center. They are starting to come out with ones that have a more diffused lens like the halogen one have. Check to see if they are dimmable, most are with an electronic low-voltage dimmer, they cost about $80-$90 but are worth it. With LED always check the lumens, the color temp-you always want warm white+2700K and a good color rendering CRI 85% or more.
