quartzy123 asked What drill will go into brick?

I have just bought a draper drill for 70.00 and I am very disappointed as it will not go into the brick. Does anyone know what kind of cordless power drill will go into brick please, I am in the UK.

And got the following answer:

For drilling brick/concrete and similar there is only one kind of drill worth bothering with. It is called an SDS Rotary Hammer. That is not the proprietary name, several firms make them and I suggest you look in the Screwfix web site or ebay. I'm afraid Draper do not make very good products these days, neither do Black & Decker by the way. You have bought an ordinary hammer drill I suspect which is OK for drilling plaster and light work or wood but no good for seriously hard materials. My own rotary hammer drill is mains powered and they can be got for a reasonable price if you search around but the cordless versions are really made for tradesman and are considerably more expensive so don't bother is my advice unless you expect to work regularly with it. I am not a tradesman but I know what I am talking about having been a DIY expert for many years.
