spazzwizz asked what car converter can i use for my macbook pro?

I want to be able to charge my laptop in my car. I have a macbook pro 13''. I have the original magsafe charger, I sometimes do work in my car and my laptop runs low on juice, so I'd like to be able to continue my work and use my charger inside my car. I do not want a crappy converter because it will fry my motherboard or battery or something. I don't want to deal with that. However I do not know enough about conversions, like I literally do not know what voltage (?) or what I am supposed to be getting in order to keep my laptop safe and plug into my cigarette lighter as if I am plugging it in at home. So I want to buy one of those converters that have the 3 prong plug thing so I can just plug it in when needed. I assume it'd look something like this: http://www.amazon.com/TsirTech%C2%AE-Portable-Inverter-Converter-cellphones/dp/B004VFSLP6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381787069&sr=8-1&keywords=car+converter+plug

And got the following answer:

The first thing you need to know is how many watts the battery your trying to charge is. Sometimes, devices will use more wattage on startup, so to play it safe, double the wattage of the inverter you buy for the battery you are trying to charge and be sure the inverter is designed for automobile use. Normally, an inverter designed for automobile use with up to 400 watts is okay for a cigarette lighter. More than likely your car has a 12 Volt battery, so you would need a 12 Volt inverter. You may want to look under the hood and read your car battery label to be sure. Sometimes trucks use larger 24 Volt batteries. The item you described on Amazon is a 12 Volt 175 Watt / 350 Watt Peak Inverter. In addition to reviewing the manufacturer's website to determine how many watts the product's battery is, I would also contact one of the manufacturer's reps just to be sure which inverter you need. As an alternative to an inverter, you can also choose to power your laptop with a portable external battery or a solar charger. These offer greater flexibility because you can take them to even more places than just your car, like out camping, on the beach, or other places where there might not be a car, or wall outlet. If you go this route, just be sure to purchase one with enough power for your laptop. Here is a link to many great examples: http://www.shopakari.com/Solar-&-Portable-Chargers.htm Best of luck!
