The fluorescent strip light in my garage has taken to going off and on instead of just staying on. I thought I'd ask if anyone knew if it was the bulb, the fitting or the starter?

If it were just off and staying off, I would suspect the bulbs. For you situation where they relight after awhile, it's almost always the ballast. If the fixture is old enough, it *may* have a starter, and in that case I would recommend simply replacing it with a more modern fixture. The newer fluorescent fixtures have electronic ballasts (instead of magnetic) and use more efficient T8 bulbs. Starters are no longer needed. Replacement may very well be the best option financially in any case. Ballasts can be more expensive than many of the new fixtures. Al
