evurr asked Can I get a adapter to plug a 3 pin into a shaver socket?

I want to put some lights round the mirror in the bathroom. Was thinking of using LED fairy lights. Obviously the only socket in the bathroom is the 2 pin shaver socket. Can you get adapters so I can plug a 3 pin into a shaver point? I am in the UK

And got the following answer:

Strictly speaking - no. For good reasons - a three pin adaptor must have provision for an earth pin, which won't go anywhere because the 2-pin socket has nowhere for it to go. Anyway - you really don't want to put anything mains powered within a meter of water unless it's specifically designed for it. The transformer for your lights won't be an isolating transformer - the sort needed to ensure safety in the event of accidentally touching a bare wire. Nor will it be suitable for use in a moist environment. Seriously - find another way. EDIT - no - in the UK we simply don't allow mains power in bathrooms. Actually that's not strictly true, but it's not far from it. The restrictions are suffient to mean that in general you can't do what the asker wants.
