steady asked What type of preheater?

I need to preheat waste oil to a temp of 180 degrees. It needs to heat a gallon an hour per hour steady. 500 watts I believe should do. Also I need to control this temp within +or- 10 to 15 degrees. I would like to have this heater a threaded style and be able to continuously touch oil. What will I need to be able to do this using as little parts as possible? I would be using a pipeline no bigger then 3/4". The reason a tank cannot be used is because when the burner is shut off oil just before the nozzle will not be hot. When the unit starts the oil needs to be hot right out of the nozzle

And got the following answer:

You will need your heating element, a thermocouple, a temperature controller, and a solid state relay(SSR) or silicon controlled rectifier(SCR). The thermocouple will attach to the controller to let the controller know the temperature of the oil. The controller will send a signal to the SSR or SCR. The SSR or SCR will then control the amount of power to the heating element allowing the oil to be kept in your desired temperature range. I would recommend an element that is submersible and has as much surface area as possible. If the surface area of the element is too small, you run the risk of having real high surface temperatures that could result in a fire. Also consider some type of mixing for more uniform heating. Check out for wiring diagrams, temperature controllers, SSRs, and SCRs.
